One of Northern Ireland’s top consultant psychiatrists has received an Honorary Fellowship.
Dr Richard Wilson was presented with the Fellowship from Dr Lade Smith CBE at an awards celebration in London for his outstanding work in the field of psychiatry.
The Fellowships are awarded annually to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the profession.
Dr Richard Wilson was a consultant child and adolescent psychiatrist and lead clinician at the Northern Health and Social Care Trust.
He served as chair of the 萝莉视频 in Northern Ireland and Vice President of RCPsych between 2020-2024.
During his tenure as chair, Dr Wilson played an important role in leading the College in Northern Ireland through the pandemic and ensured membership engagement remained steadfast during this challenging time.
He also represented the Devolved Nations of NI, Scotland and Wales on the College’s Board of Trustees.
Dr Wilson’s clinical interests are wide and include complex relational trauma and its effects on mental health, intelligent kindness in healthcare systems and professional education in mental health.
He played a leading role in the College’s engagement in the development and implementation of Northern Ireland’s first 10-year Mental Health Strategy – published by the Department of Health in 2021.
Dr Wilson currently sits on the board of Ulster University’s CHOICE project, which aims to improve the lives of people living with long-term mental health problems by tackling the health and social inequalities they experience.
