Member
A Member of the College will either have passed both parts of the College's
Membership Examination and have completed mandatory Basic Specialist Training
in psychiatry or will have been elected to Membership on the basis of
specialist training undertaken outside the UK or Ireland, an entry on the
Specialist Register of the General Medical Council and a substantive consultant
position within the NHS.
Fellow
A Fellow of the College is a Member (normally of at least 10 years standing) who
is judged to have made a significant and distinctive contribution to psychiatry
and has been elected by his or her peers in recognition of this.
Affiliate
An Affiliate of the College is a psychiatrist working in the UK or Ireland who
is not in a training post or a consultant post.
Pre-Membership Psychiatric Trainee (formerly Inceptor)
A Pre-Membership Psychiatric
Trainee of the College is a medical doctor who is undertaking Basic Training in
psychiatry and studying for the College's Membership
Examinations.
Honorary Fellow
An Honorary Fellow of the College (who may or may not be a psychiatrist) is a
person judged to have made a substantial contribution to psychiatry. Honorary
Fellowship is the highest distinction that can be granted by the College.
Associate
An Associate of the College is a distinguished member of a profession allied to
psychiatry who contributes to the work of the College.
