Dr Nermeen Ahmed
Chair, Psychiatric Resident Doctors' Committee
I am honoured to commence my term as the newly elected Chair of the Psychiatric Resident Doctors' Committee. As an ST4 General Adult Psychiatry Registrar and International Medical Graduate, I have remained deeply committed throughout my training to representing resident doctors’ voices from different backgrounds, promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion, while fostering supportive spaces where everyone feels respected and valued.
Before stepping into this role, I represented resident doctors as the PRDC’s representative in Wales and as a CT representative in my local health board. These roles deepened my understanding of regional and different training-level challenges, reinforcing my commitment to collective advocacy.
I was also delighted to be one of the co-organisers for the National Resident Doctors’ Conference 2025: Empowering Minds, Transforming Lives, facilitating engagement, creating opportunities for learning, networking and sharing new experiences with colleagues nationwide
Beyond my work advocating for resident doctors, I have a keen interest in medical education and psychotherapy with a firm belief that holistic care is central to overall patient wellbeing.
As Chair I look forward to collaborating with my Vice Chairs, Dr Poh Wang and Dr Jonathan May, to ensure that PRDC remains a supportive, inclusive, and forward-thinking committee where members feel able to raise concerns, share ideas, and contribute to meaningful change. Together, we aim to ensure that the diverse voices of psychiatry resident doctors across the UK are heard, valued, and addressed.
