I decided to apply because I believe in the power of collaboration and want to represent my peers in improving our residency experience. I think being on the committee will give me the chance to advocate for residents’ needs and help create meaningful change in our program.
My career aspiration is to become a clinician-researcher, combining patient care with advancing innovative treatments to improve outcomes for individuals with severe psychiatric illnesses. As HT for intellectual disability psychiatry, I am passionate about providing compassionate, tailored care to individuals with intellectual disabilities, who often face unique mental health challenges and disparities in access to treatment.
One key issue I am keen to engage with fellow residents on is trainee well-being, including burnout and mental health support, which is critical in a demanding field like psychiatry. I am also interested in addressing workload balance and ensuring access to diverse clinical experiences that prepare us comprehensively. Equally important is promoting a healthy balance between personal and professional life, so residents can sustain their passion for psychiatry without compromising their own well-being. Additionally, fostering open communication between residents and leadership to improve training conditions and educational opportunities is something I would prioritise.
My life outside of work revolves around caring for my children. I have a passion for poetry, which I indulge in if I get some time, which helps me better express myself and deepen my understanding of human experiences. I also enjoy walks in nature which allow me to relax, reflect, and maintain balance amid the demands of training.
