The College is delighted to announce the appointments of three new Associate Registrars.

Comorbid mental health and substance use

Dr Emily Finch has been appointed as our new Associate Registrar for Comorbid Mental Health and Substance Use.

In this role, she will work collaboratively across the College to champion improvements in the support and care provided to people who experience co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders (CoSUM) who commonly have high rates of unmet need and significantly adverse health outcomes.

Dr Finch will be providing specialist and expert advice on the subject area, and lead work in supporting, developing and evaluating the implementation of the College Report on CoSUM and substance use credentialling.

Digital mental health

Dr Asif Bachlani and Dr Paul Bradley have been appointed as joint Associate Registrars for Digital Mental Health.

They will be supporting the College to proactively respond to the rapid development of digital tools and artificial intelligence (AI) in mental health care.

Central to this will be ensuring members are equipped with the skills they need to use these emerging technologies to reduce bureaucracy and improve care.

Dr Bachlani and Dr Bradley will lead on influencing stakeholders, sharing of expertise, learning and best practice, and on the development of digital skills training programmes for members.

“Crucial leadership in two vital areas”

Welcoming the appointments, the College Registrar Professor Owen Bowden-Jones said:

“I am greatly looking forward to working with Asif, Paul and Emily.

“They will bring crucial leadership to two vital areas for the College - digital mental health and co-occurring substance use and mental health conditions.”
