Good Practice in Foundation Programme Psychiatry
We invite submissions for the College’s 'Good Practice Guide for Foundation Programme in Psychiatry', which will be published in early 2026.
Examples of good practice could include:
- placements that that are different from the norm and work particularly well
- structures/systems designed to support foundation doctors with the specific challenges of psychiatry placements
- shadowing and induction to support new foundation doctors to transition into and out of placements
- ways to support foundation doctors with out of hours working
- Balint groups or any other specialist psychotherapy that aims to support foundation doctors with their clinical role or developing psychotherapy experience
- teaching or simulation modules developed or adapted for foundation doctors
- structures/systems where foundation doctors are involved in delivering regular teaching
- MDT working – strategies to ensure teams are aware of the roles and responsibilities of foundation doctors.
The above is not an exhaustive list, but a list of prompts. A previous Good Practice Guide that may help you with ideas is also available.
Please submit a brief summary of your good practice to careers@rcpsych.ac.uk. We will then contact you with a format for the publication. There will also be an opportunity for you to join us for a conference for Foundation Programme trainers and educators, where you can share your experiences.
