Going for Gold: Change to the BJPsych Bulletin and BJPsych International publishing models
and , part of the BJPsych portfolio, are open access journals.
This means that the content is available for all to read online regardless of whether you are a member or subscriber. Open access also allows for readers to redistribute, re-use and adapt content through Creative Commons (CC) licences.
We are moving to a Gold Open Access model which means that the journals can benefit from funding that has been provided by funding bodies and academic institutions to support open access research and the cost of publication. No author will be expected to pay personally to publish in either journal – funders or institutions will cover the cost of publication.
We appreciate that authors’ circumstances differ and some might not have institutional funding, or a particular article type is not covered. Cambridge University Press, our publishing partner, has a full programme of waivers and initiatives that are available for authors to ensure they are not facing additional barriers to publication.
We have created a detailed FAQs page to help readers, authors and College members to better understand this change, which should not have an impact on the peer review process or reader experience. If you have further questions, please contact publishing@rcpsych.ac.uk and we will be happy to help.
