Helen Greenwood
Research and Design Officer
Helen is a researcher and designer at the NCCMH, specialising in scientific graphics and data visualisation to support the exploration and communication of complex information. With a background in research and speech and language therapy, she is particularly interested in how information and graphic design principles can enhance communication in visually engaging and accessible ways.
Helen is also interested in the ethics of data visualisation – she is mindful of how charts can be used to shape narratives, and how the aggregation of data can risk obscuring individual experiences and intersectionality. While undertaking a postgraduate course in Design for Visual Communication, she began to explore how data visualisation can also be used to tell personal stories and express emotion. Her work in this area was recognised with a Bronze award in the 2023 Information is Beautiful Awards.
In addition to her research and visualisation work, Helen is responsible for the layout and design of NCCMH publications, and also develops logos and branding for the organisation.
