Dear Colleagues, employees, patients and carers,
We are deeply saddened by the terrorist attack that occurred at Heaton Park Synagogue in Greater Manchester, simply because they were Jewish. Our thoughts are with everyone - those mourning loved ones; those struggling and those who will have to deal with the consequences of these actions.
This incident will have shaken many in our community and have far reaching impacts both in the UK and beyond.
This attack has occurred amongst a backdrop of rising tensions and anxieties across the UK which we are aware is putting pressure on our communities.
We remain proud of our diversity and our diverse workforce who bring so many rich perspectives to our profession and to the College.
All of this can take a toll on a person’s mental health. I am writing to offer our support to those who may need it and would like to remind you of our support services for the membership, employees, patients and carers.
For details of Psychiatrists' Support Service (PSS) which provides free, rapid, high-quality peer support by telephone to psychiatrists of all grades.
For details of our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), which is available to support employees, patients and carers, please visit the relevant areas: Employees can find information on our intranet's page (employee access only), while patients and carers can access details through the Patients and Carers Hub on our website.
We hope it may also be helpful to share our information resource on coping after a traumatic event, which offers guidance and support.
Please look after yourselves and each other.
Dr Lade Smith CBE
