It will ensure the College maintains a leading position by working collaboratively across the UK to support influencing, sharing of expertise, learning and best practice. JOB PURPOSE The primary purpose of this role is to provide specialist and expert advice on the development and implementation of mental health support for higher education (university) students across the UK, being mindful of the experience of university students in international contexts. The focus will be on promoting and guiding the development of the Colleges views on higher education mental health and seeking to influence and participate in externally led activity such as that undertaken by the Department for Health and Social Care (DHSC), the Department for Education (DfE) Higher Education Mental Health Implementation Taskforce - and - taking over from the College Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education - the Mental Wellbeing in Higher Education Expert Group (MWBHE). In consultation with the Dean and Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education, the Adviser will determine the need for undertaking work on relevant higher education mental health matters. This includes the promotion of educational and training initiatives. The Adviser will also support the whole College approach to improving higher education mental health, engaging with the informal internal oversight group leading this work. A core feature of the role will be to work collaboratively with: Colleges committees. Special Interest Groups (SIGs). Including the Transcultural psychiatry and the Occupational psychiatry SIGs. Faculties. Particularly General Adult, Eating Disorders, Addictions, Medical Psychotherapy, Child and Adolescent and Neuropsychiatry. College representatives from the Devolved Nations and Divisions. Elected/appointed roles. Including Presidential Leads and other Specialist Advisers. The College Undergraduate Education Forum. The Undergraduate Medical Forum will continue to sit under the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education. College directorates. Including the Strategic Communications directorate, Professional Standards directorate, College Centre for Quality Improvement (CCQI), National Collaborating Centre for Mental Health (NCCMH) and Public Mental Health Implementation Centre (PMHIC). KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Promote the College as a leader of good practice in university students having their mental healthcare needs met. Represent the College on external working groups, including the DfE Higher Education Mental Health Implementation Taskforce. Engage with College committees, Faculties, Divisions and Devolved Nation representatives, and work collaboratively with other elected/appointed College roles, CCQI, NCCMH and PMHIC. Ensure College projects on higher education mental health include lived experience from students in higher education and their families/carers. Support improvements in training and education through working with the Education and Training Committee, Psychiatric Trainees Committee, Specialty Advisory Committee (SAC) Chairs and Specialty and specialist (SAS) doctors Committee. Activity should include considering the development of CPD modules/masterclasses. Work with the Colleges informal oversight group on higher education mental health to ensure collaboration across the College. Support the Colleges engagement with reviews and projects including related to implementation. Scope the potential for the College to provide advice and accreditation for student mental health services. Attend relevant meetings including meetings advised to attend by the President/Dean. Liaison with national policymakers, for example related to the 10 Year Health Plan. Engagement with other external stakeholders in the sector of higher education mental health. This should be supported by a stakeholder analysis. Stakeholders should include the Mental Wellbeing in Higher Education Expert Group (MWBHE), Universities UK and the national charity Student Minds. Brief College Honorary Officers and Vice-Presidents Advise on official College responses on issues relating to the mental health of university students.
